Other than your blemishes, what do you have to lose?

Grab That Baking Soda

Baking soda is perhaps the most versatile product that you can keep in your kitchen, and you should be vigilant to make sure you never run out of it. When it comes to your skin care, all you need to do is mix baking soda with water and you can make a purifying facial mask or an exfoliating scrub.

To make the exfoliating facial scrub, combine about  3/4 of a cup of baking soda with a 1/4 cup of water. Mix these ingredients together until they form a paste. Then, apply the paste to your face, as you would any face wash or scrub. Do so for 3 to 5 minutes and then rinse your skin thoroughly. If your skin feels tight or dry, apply an non-greasy moisturizer.

To make the facial mask, combine a cup of water and a cup of baking soda. Apply the paste that forms to your skin and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Rinse and moisturize immediately after.

The baking soda in these mixtures acts as a natural exfoliant. It also dries up excess oil on your face and fights off any bacteria or fungus on your skin that feeds off of that oil and causes acne.

Use A Potato

Potatoes are another versatile food item that you likely keep in your kitchen. Rinse one potato before use in this process. To use a potato for your skin care routine, all you need to do is grab a peeler and a bowl and get to work. Try to peel the potato in long strips if possible and be sure you are collecting all pieces of the peel in your bowl.

Once the potato is peeled, you can set it aside, the peel is what you are after. To best utilize these peels, lay down on a flat surface with a handheld mirror. Begin to place the peel pieces on your face, starting with your forehead. Cover everything except your eyes and nostrils (and lips if you prefer, though you can place them on your lips as well.

Leave the potato skin mask on your face for about 20 minutes and then remove the strips. Go rinse your face with warm water, pat dry and apply a moisturizer. This mask will leave you with glowing, radiant skin. The potato peel contains many mineral nutrients that reduce blemishes and antioxidants that help to fight of inflammation and provide nourishment for your skin.

As you can see, with a few basic household products you can find right in your kitchen, you can revitalize your skin care routine, and fight off that pesky acne once and for all. Whether they are used alone or in combination with other acne treatments, you will notice marked differences in your skin immediately after you begin using these basic methods.
